For the Patties

3 tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3/4 finely chopped onion
1 large egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
About 1/3 flour for dipping the patties

For the gravy

2 Vidalia onions halved and sliced
1 cup beef stock
1 cup water
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups sliced mushrooms -optional
1 heaping tsp better than beef bullion

Put the oil into a large skillet.

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder and pepper. Shape the mixture into 5-6 equal size Patties

Dip each Patties into the flour and cook until browned on both sides. Remove and set them aside.

Add the sliced vidalia onion to the pan and cook over medium heat until lightly caramelized.

Whisk together the beef broth, water, 1/4 cup flour, the better than beef bullion, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Pour it into the pan with the onions, stir constantly until the mixture begins to thicken.

Return the Patties to the pan, turn to coat, add mushrooms if using, and reduce heat to simmer.

Cook, covered, for 20 minutes or until the patties are cooked through.
