3 tbsp shortening
1½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsps baking powder
¾ tsp salt
¾ cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in milk.
Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling soup.
Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook about 10 minutes longer.

These were a staple when I was growing up, served on top of a bowl of Mom’s yummy vegetable soup. Feeding 6 children and a husband, I often wondered after I had my own family, how she fed us all. It was during the Great Depression Time and welfare was not available as it is today. We never went hungry . She was an angel!
