1 large green cabbage
1/2 cup. rice
1 lb. ground beef
3 Tbsp fat
1 onion, chopped finely
garlic powder
salt, pepper

1 - 1 1/2 cups tomato juice or tomato sauce

Directions:
Leave the cabbage whole: pull off any discolored leaves: remove all the core: pour boiling water into the core to cover the cabbage; let stand over low heat until the leaves are pliable and will not break when folded.

Rinse rice under cold water, add to an equal quantity of boiling water and boil for 1 minute; cover tightly, turn off the heat and leave until the water is absorbed.

Fry onion in fat until golden brown and combine with the meat and the rice which will still be firm
Remove the cabbage; cool under cold water. separate leaves carefully.
on the long side of each leaf place meat mixture ; approx 2 Tbsp. Roll up, tucking in the ends to make a tight roll.

If rolls are to be cooked on top of the stove, place a shallow rack in the pot, arranging the rolls on it in layers. season
Add juice or sauce; cover tightly and simmer about 1 hr., If the pot is thin , check from time to time to be sure that it is not boiling dry to that the rolls are not scorching .
Rolls may be cooked in the oven in a casserole' ass juice, cover tightly and bake in oven for 1 - 1 1/2 hours at 325F another method is to pressure cook for 10 min.
If desired rolls can be browned slightly under the broiler; serve with crisp crumbled bacon and sour cream.
