Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 pounds dry pinto beans
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 cup Wesson oil or 1/2 cup bacon grease
2 tablespoons sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Pick beans and wash. Place beans in a 5-quart pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and add 1 teaspoon baking soda. This will foam up but be sure and do this because it's supposed to help prevent gas when eating.

Remove from fire and pour water over beans. Rinse beans with hot water. Return to pot and add hot water. Cook for about 1 hour in a fast, rolling boil.

Now is the time to add salt, Wesson oil, and sugar. Cook until tender. (About 3 hours or more).

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I cook my beans with the lid on until the last 15 minutes then I turn up the heat and boil rapidly so the bean soup will thicken. Just be sure and stir so the beans won't scorch.
