1 small onion, sliced (optional)
8 oz. baby portabella mushrooms, sliced (optional)
1 T olive oil
1 lb. sirloin steak, cut in cubes, trim excess fat
salt and pepper
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup dry red wine
2 1/2 cups beef broth
2 T cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water

Directions:
Directions:
Place onions and mushrooms in bottom of slow cooker.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Generously season the steak with salt and pepper and add them to the hot skillet. Sear the meat on all side, about 3 minutes. Do not cook through.
Place the meat into the slow cooker on top of vegetables.
Add red wine to hot skillet and scrape the bottom to remove any browned meat bits. Add these to the slow cooker.
Season the beef with pepper a second time and add Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Uncover and slowly whisk in the cornstarch and water, stir mixture in slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for another 45 minutes or until liquid has thickened.

Serve with butter egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes
