1 onion, chopped - optional
1 green bell pepper, chopped - optional
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Onion powder (reduce this by half if using real chopped onion)
1/2 cup Ketchup
1 tsp Mustard, prepared
16 oz Tomato sauce
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp Brown sugar
1/2 tsp Paprika, smoked
Salt and pepper to taste
6 Hamburger buns or 12 dinner rolls for sliders - see notes below
6 slices Cheese

Cook the ground beef and chopped veggies (if using - see notes below) in a large frying pan and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until browned. Drain the fat and transfer to dutch oven or slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients except for cheese and buns. Simmer on stovetop for 45 mins. to one hour or cook on high for 3 hours or low for 6 hours if using a crockpot.

Spoon the meat onto the hamburger buns, top with cheese, then serve or see notes below for making sliders.

This is originally a crock pot recipe, but I tripled the recipe to serve a crowd and added onion and bell pepper - made it for Craig's 70th bday. We used Costco dinner rolls to make sliders. I halved, buttered and broiled the rolls first to make them crispy, filled them with meat, added shredded cheese and put the assembled sliders into baking pans, topped with foil and baked at 350º for about 15 to 20 mins. Served with coleslaw, pickles and chips. I reduced the amount of onion powder that is listed since I added real onions.
