Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 ½ cup corn syrup
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
¼ salt
2 teaspoons LorAnn anise oil (it's important you get this brand--you can get it on Amazon)
1 tsp. black paste food color.

Directions:
Directions:
Butter an 8 or 9-inch square pan (I've seen them poured into bread pans as well), set aside.

In a heavy 4-quart saucepan, combine condense milk, corn syrup, butter, sugar and salt.

Place over medium heat and stir with a wooden spoon until well-mixed. If sugar crystals are present, wash down side of pan with a wet pastry brush.

Clip on a candy thermometer and cook, stirring constantly to 242º--firm ball stage.

Remove from heat, stir in flavoring and food coloring, blend well. Without scraping, pour into prepared pan.

Allow to stand at room temperature overnight.

Cut into 1" squares and wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap.

Personal Notes:
If you like anise or black licorice--this is epic. I've not found anything that comes close to these caramels!
