Ingredients: Traditional 1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup grape juice

Directions:Gather wild possum grades in the early Fall. Wash thoroughly and place grapes in a pot. Boil until tender using approximately 4 cups of water. Strain grapes through strainer. Use ONLY grape juice.
Mix flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, shortening and grape juice. Work dough until stiff to handle. Roll out dough on floured board. Cut into 1 x 2 inch strips
Prepare 3 cups of juice and add 1 cup of sugar, bring to a boil. Drop dough pieces into boiling grape juice mixture. You may add a teaspoon of lemon juice. Cover and cook 20 minutes. Serve Warm |

Notes: Alternative to wild grapes & less traditional: 3 large Frozen Welches grape juice cans
Pour contents of 1 can of the grape juice plus 2 cans of water into large pot. Warm over medium heat adding 2-3 tablespoons butter & 1 cup sugar
Dumplings: Add the following into a large mixing bowl. 1 1/2 - 2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking power
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons soft butter
Pour contents of 1 can of the grape juice plus 1/2 cans of water. Stir mixture. When dough starts to separate from the sides of bowl, turn it out onto a floured area and gently work into a bread dough (2-3 minutes) Roll out and cut into strips or blocks
Drop into hot juice cooking for about 5 minutes on each side
Turn down heat to low and cook for about 15 minutes
