Cookies:
1 c butter
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c water
2-1/2 cups rolled oats
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Date filling:
2 cups dates
2/3 cups sugar
2/3 cups boiling water
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp butter
1/8 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Sift flour with baking powder and salt, add rolled oats. Add dry ingredients alternately with water to sugar and butter mixture. Chill at least 15 min. before rolling & cutting into 3" rounds and baking 10 min at 350º
Filling: Cook dates sugar and water til thick. Add lemon juice butter and salt. When cookies are cool, put some filling on one cookie and sandwich with another. If you like the cookies soft, make them ahead. If you like crunchy cookies make just before eating.
