Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 lbs. roast beef (leftover or from local deli, thinly sliced)
1 onion, sliced
3 cloves of garlic, slightly crushed
1 (10.5 oz) Au Jus gravy packet or can
1 (10.5 oz) can of French onion soup
2 round shape French Bread or equivalent type
provolone cheese slices or Gruyere Cheese
freshly cracked black pepper
Sherry wine, optional
Olive oil in spray or bowl for brushing

* Sliced sauteed mushrooms, chowder can be used to substitute meat

allow ~1/2 pound meat per bowl.

Directions:
Directions:
Slice the top of the bread to form a bowl. Set aside. Scoop out most of the bread from the inside bowl but leave some bread on the walls. Press hands against walls to compact bread gently. Spray inside of the bowl with oil lightly. Place the bread on a cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until insides slightly toasted.

Mix together gravy per directions in a saucepan. Add onion, garlic, and sherry. Heat to soften the onion and burn off alcohol leaving flavor.

Add sliced onions, sliced meat, or mushrooms to the toasted bread bowl. Pour in 1/4th cup broth. Top bowl with cheese.

When ready to eat, broil bread bowls until cheese is melted. Watch closely because it's super easy to burn under the broiler.

Serve with bread top, pulled bread pieces, and Au jus for dipping.

Serve with a side salad.

Personal Notes:
Many years ago I was in Philly and was served this in a restaurant. Such a rich flavor. While there's was from scratch, this recipe is a quick version that still packs a mean taste. It's a winter Go-To for a quick dinner meal during the week. Hearty and heart filling. Made with love.

You can substitute many things for beef: seafood chowder, mushrooms, or much more. Perfect for a cold day.
