¾ cups butter
grated rind of one lemon
1 egg
milk
½ tsp. almond extract
3½ cups peeled apples cut in thin wedges

Directions:
Combine first four ingredients. Cut in the butter until quite fine and add lemon rind. Beat egg lightly in a cup and add enough milk to make ½ cup liquid. Add almond extract and pour over dry ingredients, tossing with fork until a ball of soft dough is formed. (May need to add a few drops of milk.) Place dough in bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13" pan. Flour fingers and pat dough evenly and cover bottom and halfway up the sides. Refrigerate while preparing apples. Arrange apples over dough in even, slightly overlapping rows.

Topping:
Mix ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of apples. Bake in 375ºF oven for 30-40 minutes. Cut into squares.
