½ cup Crisco (or butter)
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
½ tsp soda
1¼ tsp baking powder
1 tsp cloves (ground)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
½ tsp salt
2 ½ cup flour (sifted)
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup blackberry jam

Icing:
2 cups sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
1½ cup milk

Directions:

Mix in mixing bowl Crisco and sugar. Add eggs, mix Add spices ad salt. Add baking powder and soda.
Mix flour and buttermilk alternately. Mix in jam last. Batter should be thick but ot dry Bake a mall sample to taste.
Bake in well grease cake pans Grease cake pan and dust with flour, helps keep cake from sticking.

Icing:
Cook slowly 1 hour until mixture reaches hard ball stage.
