Measure 1 c. flour, 1 c. cornmeal, 1 t. salt, and 3 t. baking powder into a sifter. Sift into bowl. Add 1 c. or more milk. Beat 1 egg and stir in. Add about 3 T. melted shortening. (Melt shortening in the pan.) Bake at 400º and brown top in the broiler.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I don't have the cornbread bowl any more (the red Pyrex mixing bowl in the set), but I still have the cornbread pan, blackened "just right" to make those crusty corners.

Do Steve and Melba remember liking to scrape the cornbread bowl for a before-meal snack? I always liked that particular taste.

Here's the code for how to use Mama's colored mixing bowls:
Yellow - Rolls and donuts
Green - Cakes and cookies
Red - Cornbread
Blue - Serve gravy at the table!
