3 cup cake flour (all purpose flour if sifted three times)
3 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 eggs (separated)
1 cup milk (use a little more milk if all purpose flour is used)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Put dry ingredients in large bowl and sift
2. Add milk and shortening.
3. Beat 3 minutes.
4. Add eggs and beat 3 minutes more.
5. Bake at 375 degrees (325 if glass)
6. Makes 3 9" layers
