1/4 c warm water
1/2 envelope active dry yeast
1 1/2 c flour
1 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/8 c vegetable shortening, chilled
1 c buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º.

Grease baking sheet with spray.
Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a small bowl and allow to proof.
In large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles a coarse meal.
Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk and mix well. Sprinkle small amount of flour over a work surface and roll out to a 1 inch thickness. Using a 2 1/2 inch round biscuit cutter, cut the dough into biscuits. Gently roll the scraps and cut out more biscuits. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake until light golden brown and firm to touch, about 12 minutes. Serve piping hot with butter.
