Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 pkgs dry or compressed yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk, scalded
4 to 4-1/2 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup shortening
2 cups rolled oats

Directions:
Directions:
Soften yeast in lukewarm water (use warm water for dry yeast). Pour scalded milk over shortening, sugar and salt; stir until shortening melts. Cool to lukewarm.

Stir in 1 cup flour and softened yeast and oats. Stir in enough more flour to make soft dough. Turn dough out onto lightly-floured board and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes. Round dough into ball; place in a greased bowl and brush lightly with melted shortening. Cover, let rise in a warm place until nearly double in bulk, about 1 hour.

Punch down dough and cover; let rise 10 minutes. Divide dough in half and form each part to make a loaf. Place loaves in well-greased loaf pans. Brush tops with melted shortening; cover, let rise until nearly double in size, about 45 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees about 50 minutes. Remove from pan; brush lightly with melted butter.
