1 cup Crisco
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
3 1/2 cups sifted self rising flour
1 1/2 cups broken pecans
2 cups candied cheries chopped
2 cups cut up dates

Mix well shortening, sugar and eggs. Stir in buttermilk, mix in flour, pecans, cherries, and dates

Chill at least 1 hour or overnight.

Heat oven to 400º. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2" apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Place a pecan half on each cookie if desired. Bake 8-10 minutes. Makes about 8 dozen cookies.
