Crumb Layers
1 1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 cup rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup butter

Filling
1 1/2 cups chopped dates
1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 350 F.

2. For crumb layers, measure flour, rolled oats, sugar, baking soda & salt into large bowl.
3. Cut in butter until crumbly.
4. Grease a 9x9" pan.
5. Press a generous half in greased 9x9" pan.

6. For the filling, in saucepan combine dates, sugar and water.
7. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer until mushy.
8. If mixture becomes too dry before dates have softened, add more water. If you find you have too much water, simmer until some has boiled away.
9. Spread over bottom layer of crumbs.
10. Sprinkle remaining crumbs over top; press down with your hand.

11. Bake in oven for 30 minutes until a rich golden brown color.
