1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
3 large apples (grated)
1/2 cup nuts
Sauce
1 square butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups Water
2 Tablespoons flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients together and sift.
Add egg and shortening and apples.
Then add nuts and pour into greased pan - about 8x8in.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Sauce:
Add 2 cups boiling water and 2 heaping tablespoons flour and water mixed together to make a paste.
Cook over low heat until thick and carmely. Have the burner hot enough so it will boil but not scorch. It takes a little while to make it nice and carmely.
You must stir it all the time.
