1½ cups butter (3 sticks)
1¼ cups sugar
1¼ cups packed brown sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
24 ounces of semisweet chocolate chips or half milk chocolate and half semisweet chocolate chips
optional 1 to 2 cups chopped pecans

Heat oven to 350º.
Mix butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, soda and salt. Add chocolate chips and drop by spoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet or cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown.
