"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain

During the COVID 19 pandemic, we were unable to travel. It was a tough time for us because Grandpo and I live in Oak Harbor WA and Cameron (age 12 years) and his parents live in Vermont.
We decided to join each other online using Zoom or Google Meets, popular internet meeting sites and bake something. We had a tradition of baking Christmas cookies together but now we could not be together.
December 11, 2020, we baked Christmas Cookies together from a distance. On December 13, we got online to frost those cookies.
It was so much fun that we wanted to get together to make other things! We would text back and forth to determine what to cook, agree on a recipe, and set the date and time to cook “together”. Cameron named our group “The Bakers Association of Bakers”. Cameron and I are the bakers. Michelle and her dad are sous chefs. Mostly this involves getting things out of the cupboards and cleaning up. I found shirts that said “Baker” on the front. Cameron and I have blue shirts. Bill and Michelle have red shirts.
On February 2, 2021 we made enchiladas.
Valentine’s Day,February 14 we made Apple Strudel.
March 7 it was popover time! A local kitchen shop in Stowe VT, gave a gift bag full of kitchen supplies including a popover pan to Cameron. Cameron and Michelle sent a popover pan to me.
May 22, we baked bread! Cameron’s school had a series about hunger issues. His assignment was to bake two loaves of bread, keep one and give one to someone else.
July 5, it was Perogis! We got an authentic Polish recipe from Bill’s Naval Academy classmate. It was Bob Kuginski’s wife Tammy who shared Momma K’s recipe with us.
On July 19 we baked a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

Personal Notes:
Online school during the pandemic found Cameron at home every day, all after school activities were suspended, Michelle and Travis were able to work from home. We all stayed home except for essential business. Groceries were delivered, doctors met with us on video conferencing. We were trying to stay well and not spread the disease. So far more than 600,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. Our family has stayed safe from it. Baking together has been the way our multigenerational family has been able to be together. We intend to continue the Bakers Association of Bakers even when we can travel safely to see each other. Cathy Proses July 2021
