2 ½ lbs. green tomatoes (peeled), cut in ½ to ¾ inch slices. Arrange to overlap in a lightly oiled baking dish. Sprinkle each layer with ½ T. of sugar, salt, and pepper to taste. Lightly brown ¾ cup fresh bread crumbs in 3 T. butter. Combine ½ t oregano, ½ t basil, ¼ t thyme with bread 3 T. melted butter. Bake at 350º for 45 minutes.
