2 C. sugar
1/2 C. white vinegar (can use apple cider if that's all you have)
1/2 C. water
2 Tblsp. butter
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar

Optional: 1/2 tsp. flavoring extract (lemon) and food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients except butter in a pan.
Bring to boil
Boil until it reaches the hard ball stage (~250 degrees f)
Remove from heat and add butter
Lightly Grease a platter
Pour the Taffy onto the platter and allow to cool until you can handle without burning your hands.
Apply a thin layer of butter to your hands
Divide into manageable gobs.
Begin to pull the taffy. Bring ends together and grab loop. Pull again and repeat.
Pull until it is light in color and stiff (15-60 minutes)
Roll into a rope
Cut into 1" pieces
Wrap in wax paper squares then twist the ends.

I used to think this would be so fun to make, but I remember ending up with a blister or two so be sure to let it cool enough. I also remember that I would pull till I couldn't pull any more but mom could always get a few more stretches out of it. :)
