1 cup sugar
½ cup corn starch
½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
4 egg yolks

Directions:
Scald 3½ cups milk in top of double boiler or in microwave. ( I like the microwave because I don't have to worry about scorching.) Mix ½ cup milk, with sugar and cornstarch, and salt until it is smooth. Add to milk and cook until thick, 1-1 ½ minutes in the microwave several times, stirring between stops and starts. Beat egg yolks, in a small bowl. Pour a little hot custard into beaten yolks, and then return it to custard. Cook 3 more minutes, stirring every minute. Add vanilla flavoring and butter. Cook one minute. Cool mixture. Add to cool 10 inch baked pie shell. Add bananas or coconut, if you desire to have those kind of cream pies. Top with whipping cream.
