1 lb. round steak, cut in 1-inch thick
¼ cup shortening
1 clove garlic, minced
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
4 tbsp. soy sauce
½ tsp. sugar
1 cup canned bean sprouts
2 tomatoes, quartered or 1 cup canned tomatoes
2 green peppers, seeded, cut into small pieces
½ tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. cold water
4 green onions, sliced

Slice steak as thinly as possible in short crosswise pieces. Heat shortening, garlic, salt and pepper in skillet and cook the beef until brown on both sides. Add soy sauce and sugar. Cover and cook over high heat for 5 minutes. Add bean sprouts, tomatoes and green peppers. Cover and cook 5 minutes. Stir in cornstarch dissolved in cold water and cook, stirring until sauce is thickened. Sprinkle with green onions and serve with cooked rice.
