Directions:
Place skillet or dutch oven over lowest heat, line with a layer of bacon strips,( full slices of bacon cut into 3-4 inch pieces each.) Next, a layer of round steak, trimmed of fat and cut into strips about 3 inches long. Season with salt and pepper. Then in order and season between each layer, a layer of sliced onions, one of fresh string beans or peas, another of carrot slices and top with a big layer of thinly sliced potatoes. Add about ½ cup water, cover tightly and simmer very slowly about 1 ½ to 2 hours or longer. Watch the liquid, keeping just enough in it to keep it from sticking. It's the bacon and steaming combinations that does the trick.
