Ingredients for either 10" or 9" pie shown

Unbaked pie shell

2 Cups 1 1/2 Cups Flour
1 1/3C 1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/3 Cup 1/4 Cup Butter

Rub top ingredients together to make crumbs. Set aside

3/4 Cup 1/2 Cup Dark Karo (little more poured directly over crust)
3/4 Cup 1/2 Cup hot water
1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp baking soda

Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add molasses. Stir to dissolve. Pour into pie
shell. I usually pour a little karo directly onto shell too. Sprinkle crumbs gently
over everything.


Bake 400º for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350º for an additional 25 - 30 minutes

Dissolving the baking soda in the water is an important step. First time I made it, I was dating Pop and missed this step. The pie kept bubbling up in the middle. Looked like it was breathing! Pop hasn't let me forget it! LOL
