Personal Notes:
Pat Slay lived in the Lake Charles ward for many years. This is her mother's recipe. Zula Mae lived in the Silsbee, Texas area, part of the Beaumont Stake and went to church in Fred. FamilySearch Memories contain the story below. It's wonderful that someone has recorded both the story and the recipe. She is still thought of highly in the Fred area for her rolls and Tea Cakes, the folks remember her giving them to the ward children, they also remember that she sometimes made the cookies as big as a # 10 can!

"Every Sunday someone in the Branch would find a loaf of homemade bread (usually cracked wheat), a pan of rolls or a plate of chocolate chip cookies in their car, usually a car that wasn't locked. Soon everyone was leaving their car unlocked!
One Sunday she (Zula Mae Hutto) left cookies in our car. She always came to you when she saw you and asked, 'How can I make them better?' I told her, 'Get a #10 can and cut them out bigger!' Next Sunday she had a plate of #10 cookies in our car!" - Virgil Andrew Segrest
