Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 lb butter
1 can sweeten condensed milk, not evaporated
2 1/2 c brown sugar, packed
1 c light Karo syrup
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
In a copper pan with a wooden spatula; melt butter over low heat. Remove from burner.

Add sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar and syrup. Return to heat. Stirring constantly bring mixture up to a temperature on the candy thermometer of 240º or a little more.

Remove from heat and add 1 tsp vanilla, stir well. Pour into a well buttered 9 x 13 pan, spread evenly. Cool at room temperature. Cut and wrap.

Options: Add nuts of choice or dip carmels in chocolate after they have cooled.

Notes:
Copper kettles help evenly distribute the heat and have a heavier bottom. The wooden spoon, I don't know why, but always told that's what you need when you make candy.

Wrappers; I order foil wrappers from Amazon that are pre-cut and come in many colors. You can also get them at Micheal's.
