¼ c sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1½ c sugar
½ c shortening
½ c butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
2¾ c flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º.
Mix ¼ c sugar and the cinnamon; set aside.
Beat 1½ c sugar, shortening, butter and eggs in a large bowl with the mixer on medium speed or mix with a spoon.
Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
Shape dough into 1¼" balls. Roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture.
Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes or until centers are almost set.
Remove from cookie sheet to a wire rack. Cool completely.
