Notes: My Mother would make this coffee cake for Christmas, decorating with red and green maraschino cherries. She would put candles on it and we would sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. This is such a great coffee cake. Two of my grandchildren do not like nuts so I would make half and half. There was not enough coffee cake to go around as we shared with Debra and Paul. So, we started to make 2 cakes. About 2 months ago, Debra made this coffee cake. Oh my, it was sooo good. I told her she was now in charge of making this coffee cake for Christmas from now on, much better than any I ever made. Her tricks: cream the sugar and butter for a long time, sift the flour before measuring and don’t under bake.
