2 c. Flour
1 c. Boiling Water
1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 c. Whole Dates, pitted chopped coarse
1 c. Pecans or Walnuts, chopped coarse
⅔ c. Buttermilk
¾ c. Dark Brown Sugar
6 tbsp. Butter, melted and cooled
1 Egg
1 tsp. Baking Powder
¼ tsp. Salt

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease & flour 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Stir water, baking soda and dates in medium bowl; cover set aside until dates have softened and water is lukewarm, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, spread nuts on rimmed baking sheet and toast until fragrant, 5-10 minutes, set aside.
Stir buttermilk and sugar together in bowl. Add melted butter and egg, stir until combined. Stir in date mixture until combined. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and nuts. Stir in buttermilk mixture with rubber spatula until just moistened. Scrape batter into prepared pan, smooth surface with rubber spatula. Bake until loaf is dark brown and toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 55-60 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes then transfer to wire rack and cool at least 1 hour.
