3 qts. ground cooked beef (2 large, 1 small chuck roasts)
3 large butter dishes applesauce
3 ¾ qts. ground apples cooked in 1 qt. broth (from roasts)
4 # raisins, cooked in 1 pt. broth
2 c. white sugar
2 c. brown sugar
4 heaping tsp. salt
13 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. scant ground cloves
½ - ¾ c. vinegar
½ c. lemon juice
1 gallon cider boiled down to just over 1 quart

Roast the meat and shred. Add applesauce, cooked apples and raisins. Mix sugars and spices. Add to reduced cider and vinegar. Place into prepared pie crust and cover with a top crust (cut vents). Bake @ 350º until brown, approximately 40 minutes.

This recipe makes a big batch good for freezing. The recipe has many notes along the side, including "my version" and "Ron's version". Each year the two of them added more of this and less of that. The "large butter dish" is likely about a quart.
