4 firm pears, peeled, halved and cored
2/3 cup maple syrup – use the real stuff
4 T melted butter
½ t each ground cinnamon and allspice
Pinch of salt
10 ginger snap cookies, crushed into crumbs
Vanilla ice cream for serving

Directions:

Mix the syrup, butter, and spices together. In a baking dish, toss the pears with the syrup mixture. Bake in 425 oven for 45-50 minutes (until they are pleasingly soft), turning the pears once or twice.
Arrange the pears in dessert dishes with some ice cream sprinkled with the cookie crumbs.
Note: You can make the pears in advance, refrigerate and then reheat when ready to serve. If halving the recipe, use a smaller baking dish.

This is my mom's recipe and has always been one of my favorite desserts. Don't skip the crispy crumbly cookie topping.
