1 c. Shortening
2 c. Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
2¼ c. Flour
1 c. Buttermilk
½ c. Cocoa Powder
2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 c. Hot Water

**Frosting**
¼ c. Butter
3 tbsp. Cocoa Powder
Pinch Salt
Vanilla
Powdered Sugar
Milk
Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar, salt and vanilla. Add eggs and beat until very light and creamy. Add flour and buttermilk and mix for 2 more minutes. In a separate bowl mix cocoa, baking soda and hot water. Add to batter & mix. Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes.

**Frosting**
Melt butter and add 3 tbsp. cocoa, a pinch of salt and vanilla. Add milk and powdered sugar to desired consistency.
