1 1/4 c flour
3/4 c cornmeal
2 tsp baking powder
1/3 c sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 c whole milk
1/4 c shortening
1 egg

Honey Butter:
1/2 c butter, softened
1/3 c honey

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Grease an 8 x 8 inch pan or melt 1 tablespoon butter in a cast iron skillet, sides included.

In a large bowl; combine, cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar and salt; mix together well.

Add milk, shortening, and egg and mix only until all the ingredients are well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until top is golden brown. Let the cornbread cool slightly before cutting.

For the honey butter; mix together until smooth and fluffy, serve on the side.
