Directions:There are three basic ways to cook bacon: Skillet; Oven; or Microwave. You can also grill bacon, deep fry, or air fry. I will provide the instructions for the first 3 ways.
Skillet: Start with a cold pan. Place bacon in pan, one strip next to the next strip without overlapping (bacon shrinks as it cooks). Bacon cooks best on low heat, as it begins to buckle and curl, you can use tongs to carefully turn the bacon over (3 to minutes). Cook until the bacon is done, which will depend on your person preference. Some people like it a little loose and flappy, other like it very crispy. Bacon will stiffen slightly as it cools. When it reaches the desire doneness, remove pan from heat, and remove bacon from pan, and place on a place lined with paper towels to absorb the excess fat. Carefully drain bacon grease into a metal container, or glass bowl if saving for other uses.
Oven: Making your bacon in the oven take more time then in a skillet, but a little cleaner, and easier, and allows time to do other things while it is baking.
Preheat oven to 350º F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use oven bacon pan. Lay bacon strips one next to the other without overlapping them. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, then turn over, and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until bacon reaches the desired level of doneness. Remove from oven, and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess grease. Carefully drain bacon grease into a metal container, or glass bowl if saving for other uses.
Microwave: Bacon made in the microwave in the quickest way to prepare bacon. You can prepare on a microwave safe plate (lined with paper towels, or you can use a bacon tray. It takes about 1 minute per slice of bacon that you are preparing (depending on your preference for level of doneness, bacon will stiffen slightly as it cools). I like to prepare 6 pieces at a time and cook for 4 to 5 minutes. |
