1 cup margarine
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup boiling water plus 3 tbsp.
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup sugar
2 cups unsifted flour, may need to add more flour about a ⅓ cup
1 tsp. soda
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup coarsely cut nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle soda over dates and pour hot water over dates. Let stand until cool. Cream sugar and shortening well. Add eggs. Put salt in flour and add alternately with dates, beat well. Add ½ cup nuts and ½ cup chocolate chips. Pour into pan 9x13 size. Add rest of nuts and chocolate chips on top. Bake in oven 350º for 45 minutes. Serve with ice cream.
