3 c flour
1 c butter
1 c sugar
2 eggs
dash salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400º.

In a large bowl; cream together, butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs and vanilla; mix well.

In another large bowl; combine flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar. Gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix together until well blended.

Refrigerate at least one hour or longer.

On a well floured surface; roll 1/4 of the dough out to 1/8 inch thick. Dust cookie cutters with flour before cutting out cookies. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, just until edges start to brown, remove from oven. Cool on pan 1-2 minutes then remove to wire racks until completely cool.

When I was a young girl, I used to walk my neighbors dog. She made these cookies for Christmas one year and I was hooked. They are melt in your mouth delicious and every time I make them I think of Marie.
