1 gallon whole cucumbers
4 tbsp canning salt
8 tbsp pickling spices
4 tbsp alum
4 cups vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Wash cucumbers, hand place in a gallon jar. Mix ingredients and add to cucumbers. Finish filling jar with cold water. Place jar in a cool dark place for 4 months. Once a month shake jar to mix ingredients. At the end of 4 months take pickles out of jar and wash with cold water. Wash 2 times. Clean jar, discarding spices. Slice pickles as desired (strips, slices or chunks). Place pickles back into jar and add 6 cups sugar and 1/2 cup cold water. Place lid on jar and turn upside down to mix. Keep in refrigerator. Pickles are ready when sugar is dissolved
Makes a great pickle relish when finished pickles are chopped in food processor.
