6 medium tart cooking apples (greening, rome, granny smith) sliced about 6 c.
¾ c. packed brown sugar
½ c. all-purpose flour
½ c. quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
⅓ c. cold butter or margarine
cream or ice cream, if desired

Directions:

Heat ove to 375º.
In ungreased 8 in. square pan, spread apples.
In med. bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cut in butter, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives in the opposite directions),
until mixture is crumbly.
Sprinkle evenly over apples.
Bake 35 to 40 min. or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when
pierced with fork.
Serve warm with cream or ice cream.

Blueberry Crisp: Substitute 6 c. fresh blueberries or thawed-drained frozen bluebarries
for apples.
Rhubarb Crisp: Substitute 6 c. cut-up fresh rhubarb for apples. Sprinkle ½ c.
granulated sugar over rhubarb stir to compine.
