1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water.

or

9 level tablespoons of starch (cornstarch) with 1 cup water.

Directions:
Directions:
For sugar solution; bring sugar and water to a boil, boil for 3-4 minutes. Cool some; place doily in the solution, squeeze out excess and pin doily out on a doily board. Let dry.

Starch Solution; Follow instructions on your cornstarch box. Pion out doily as above.

This was my Grandma Sophie's instruction's for stiffening up her doilies. I have beautiful doilies from both my Grandma and Scott's Grandma Erickson, I love them and think of them every time I see them.
