Directions:
Toast bread lightly and cut diagonally into fourths. Arrange a single layer of bread in the bottom of a lightly buttered 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 inch baking dish.

Core and slice 1 apple, then core and dice enough remaining apples to measure 4 cups and spread diced apples evenly over on bread. Sprinkle raisins over apples, then arrange remaining bread in two lengthwise rows in diced apples, placing sliced apples between the rows of bread.

Heat milk and butter only until butter melts. Combine eggs, salt, sugar, and spices; gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Pour over bread and apples and sprinkle with brown sugar.

Bake uncovered, at 350º for 40-50 minuets or until set. Serve warm or cold, and topped with sour cream, ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
