Hilda Johnson's Bread Pudding Recipe

3 slices of soft white bread
3 c milk
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 c sugar
2 pinches salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c raisins
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Tear bread slices into small pieces and place in a small baking dish; sprinkle with the raisins.

Heat milk to lukewarm; add beaten eggs, sugar, salt, spices and vanilla; mix well. Pour milk mixture over the bread and raisins; make sure bread is saturated. Sprinkle top with nutmeg.

Bake at 350º about 30-45 minutes or until knife come out clean.

I usually double this recipe.
I have fond memories of this dish. When I was a kid, the 8th graders helped in the kitchen at the Vernon Center School; Hilda was our cook and the best too. This was a special dish she made for the teachers table and we got to eat what was left. I think of her every time I make it.
