5 eggs
2/3 c sugar
1/2 t salt
1/4 t nutmeg or more to taste
2 c milk (or cream, or 1/2& 1/2 mixed)
1 1/2 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Line 9" pie pan with pastry dough. Beat eggs slightly and then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well - all by hand. Bake 20 minutes at 450º. (I cover the pie crust edge for the first 20 minutes and then remove.)Then lower temp to 350º for another 15 - 20 minutes. Knife inserted half way between center and edge should come out clean.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This was a Betty Crocker recipe but I have modified it - it is a little richer. With the eggs and milk I like to fool myself that it is a healthy pie. My grandmother made pies, especially custard and Mom made cakes. I make both. Like to think I learned the best of both.
