Notes: My mom has been making this for decades at Christmas time and it is one of my favorite holiday indulgences. The recipe dates back to a cookbook from The Spring Green Restaurant which is the Frank Lloyd Wright building right on the Wisconsin River, currently the Taliesin Visitor's Center. It was still an upscale restaurant when dad and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner there in 1990. My childhood friend Heidi's mom was a waitress there when we were growing up and Heidi and I would ride our bikes for lunch there in the summer for a special treat. This cake is so yummy drenched in the warm butter sauce and I love using cranberries from Wisconsin!
