3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 c. REAL maple syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c. walnuts (1/2c chopped, the rest keep whole to top cookie)

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add alternatively with syrup to mixture. Blend well, add nuts. Drop dough by tablespoons on ungreased sheet. Top with walnut half. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees.

During our year (2005) in Newport, Rhode Island we were lucky enough to take a trip to beautiful Vermont. While there we purchased some local maple syrup (of course!) and I made these yummy cookies when we returned home.
