Boil 1½ cup raisins in ½ cup water and cool

Cream ⅔ cup shortening, add 1 cup of white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar, beat 2 eggs. Dissolve 1 tsp soda in ½ cup raisin water. Sift together 3½ cup flour, 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp nutmeg, ½ tsp salt. Mix well and drop by spoonful on baking sheet.
