Cucumbers (whole, speared or sliced)

Brine

5 c. water
5 c. vinegar
5 T. canning salt
3 c. sugar

Per jar:
1 tsp. pepper flakes
Pinch alum
1 tsp. peppercorns
1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
1/4 tsp. turmeric
1/4 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. caraway seed
1/2 clove garlic
1/8 tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare 8 quarts by adding ingredients listed under per jar. While bringing brine ingredients to a boil on stove, place cucumbers in prepared jars. Pour boiling brine in jars. Fill to neck of jar.

To seal: Set jars upside down on kitchen towel until they cool and seal.
