Apple Dumplings Recipe

Dough:
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
⅔ c. shortening
5-7 TBS. water

Filling
3 lbs. apples, peeled and cut into bite size pieces
Sugar
Cinnamon
Butter

Syrup:
1 ½ c. sugar
1 ½ c. water
¼ tsp. nutmeg
¼ tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Dough: Cut in shortening and flour and salt. Gradually add water, blend well. Divide dough into 12 goofball size balls. Rolls out into circles

Filling: Spoon pile of apples onto dough circles. Dot with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Pinch crusts together. Place seam side down in 9x13 pan.

Syrup: Boil syrup ingredients. Remove and add 3 TBS. butter. The syrup will be watery. Pour over dumplings in the pan, cover tops with syrup. Bake at 375º for 45 minutes. Baste with syrup throughout cooking time. Makes 12 dumplings.
